Installation & Care

Grouting

Square edged natural stone tile grout lines are typically filled with un-sanded grout and are usually much thinner than ceramic tile installations, while slate and tumbled stones require sanded grout and wider joints.
Grout can match, contrast or coordinate with your stone tile.
Remember that grout will outline each tile creating a visual picture frame.
If you want the grout to be less noticeable, select a grout that is close in color to the stone.
A contrasting grout color, either darker or lighter, will make the grout lines more visible and thereby will create a checkerboard effect.
Grout colors installed in your home can be slightly different from the sample you viewed in our store.
This is due to differences in temperature and humidity during installation.
Even when the same grout color is used, it is also common to see slight differences between the grout used for floor tile in one room and the grout used in an adjacent room.
Exact layouts, type of grout and grout joint widths are determined by the tile setter at the time of installation and are governed by the actual size and shape of the tile, and the exact dimensions of the areas to be covered.

Sealing is recommended

It is important to note that sealing of natural stone is highly recommended.
Natural stone tiles create a splendid finish in any area of the house, both in terms of beauty and durability. However to ensure that this effect is long lasting its essential that you protect your stone tiles.
Sealing your natural stone flooring makes it less porous, more stain resistant, and protects the stone’s original beauty.
We recommend to seal all the stones prior to grouting as it will ease the clean up after application of the grout.
There are many sealants available in the market today and depending on your natural stone tiles, texture, quality and type you have to select the right one. So, at Boutique Tiles we have pre-selected a range of sealers that will protect and enhance the natural beauty of your stone tiles. There are two main types of sealers, the first is an invisible type, which leaves the stone with a natural look. The second enhances the colours within the stone. Adding depth and shine to stone tiles can be accomplished through the application of enhancing sealers. When properly sealed, your natural stone tiles will be protected from staining and you’ll enjoy the beautiful colour tones only real stone can provide.

Cleaning

Stone surfaces are very easy to clean. Just sweep and mop when needed. You may use high pressure wash as well. There are also specifically formulated cleaners which are very effective and easy to use.
Do not use Acidic or alkaline cleaners as they can open the pours of the natural stone and change the colour of the surface.
With professional advice from Boutique Tiles experts and following these straight forward procedures, your stone flooring will not only look beautiful, but it will last a lifetime.
